"The secret of becoming a star, is knowing how to behave like one"
'Velvet Goldmine' is a documentary about Brian's life and career. However, it is also about glam rock in general. This page is about the main people who feature in the film.

Mandy Slade
Mandy Slade is Brian's wife. They married in 1970, soon after they first met. They now in North London and, according to Brian, are "happily" married. Mandy is known to be just as flamboyant as her husband and they are hard to separate at photo shoots.
Curt Wild
Curt Wild is known for his energetic style of glam rock. He was the founder of the influential, garage band the Wylde Rats. His singles have included 'T.V Eye', 'My Unclean, and 'Gimme Danger. At one stage, Brian was acting as producer for his album but the project fell through. The documentary, Velvet Goldmine, confirmed the popular belief that Brian and Curt were a couple at one point- the relationship was publically portrayed by their behaviour towards each other at press conferences and on stage particularly suring one performance of Brian's song 'Baby's on Fire'. However, there appears to be little communication between the two now. He is currently working on his album 'Danger Zone' with Jack Fairy in Berlin- with whom it is assumed he is now in a relationship with.
Jack Fairy
Jack Fairy is said to be one of Brian's main inspirations and the true inventor of glam rock. His individual style has meant that he has not been as widely successful as might have been suspected. His concerts are very popular, however, and he is currently working with Curt Wild(who he is rumoured to be in a realtionship with) as a producer on Curt's 'Danger Zone' album.
The Flaming Creatures(and Arthur Stuart)
The Flaming Creatures are an up-and-coming glam rock band, heavily influenced by Jack Fairy in style. Their popular single, '20th Century Boy', is probably the most famous of their songs. They are usually accompanied by their friend Arthur Stuart(seen here on the far left) who lives with them. He has developed a reputation for his wild dancing at Flaming Creatures' concerts(he often has to be physically restrained).
Jerry Devine and Shannon
Jerry Devine is Brian's second manager and is credited with making Brian "a star". He offered to manage Brian after seeing the video of 'The Ballad of Maxwell Demon'.
Shannon is Brian's personal assistant. She is not a very strong presence at press conferences but has an increasing amount of influence in private.
The documentary, Velvet Goldmine, confirmed the suspicion of many that Jerry and Shannon were in some kind of relationship at one point.
Cecil
Cecil was Brian's first manager. Under his management, Brian released his, at the time, unsuccessful first album-Zounds. It is thought that Cecil had some kind of relationship with Brian during his time as Brian's manager. However, they have had no contact with each other since Brian sacked Cecil in favour of Jerry Devine's management.
